A night at the movies has become painfully expensive. With prices hovering over $10 a person, it can really put a dent in your pocketbook. Thankfully we have several dollar/bargain theaters in the Southern California area. There are local dollar theaters in the Inland Empire, LA , Orange and Ventura Counties. I searched and searched and couldn't find anything for the San Diego area. If you know of one in the area , please email me so I can add it to the list.
We love visiting bargain theaters because they're inexpensive and if the kids became bored and we need to leave, we are only out a couple of bucks. Family films are particularly popular at these type of theaters, so it's usually easy to find something for everyone. We've had a great experience and I'm sure your family will too!!

Thought you might like to know...as a footnote, Cinemark Movies of Lancaster has Family Night every Monday. For a group of three or more, admission is just$0.50.
In orange County, my favorite theatre is Cinema City which is on La Palma and Imperial in Anaheim Hills, Yorba linda area. It has first run movies everyday until noon costs 4.00. from noon to 5 it is 5 dollars, and after that it is like 5, 7 or 8 dollars depending on your age. I is extreemely expensive on the popcorn and drinks, but we never buy them.
Then at the Main Place Mall, the theatre is called "THe Picture Show" and all movies are 1.75 all the time, but they are the movies that are about to come out on DVD. They also have a movie club in the summers past - kids movies free at 10 am on Tuesdays - not sure for this year.
Here is the website for Cinema City

AMC Theatres now has $6 movies before noon every day.
A few weeks ago we passed a movie theater at 2299 W. Ball Road, Anaheim CA, 92804, it's called 'Brookhurst 4 Cinemas'. Their matinee cost $2.00 and their evening cost $2.50. You can go to their website to see what's playing at that time at http://www.brookhurst4.com/
The Redondo Beach Cinema 3 closed earlier this month. It's going to be torn down and replaced with a Nordstrom Rack store :)
4 Star Cinema has $4 matinee before noon, $5 matinee until 6. Tuesday is family night for $4 and Wed is seniors for $4. Regular prices are $8 for adults and $5 for kids 3-11. $2 extra for 3-D. The theater has new high back seats. All digital projection. They tend to show 1-2 family shows as they gear toward families and seniors.
