The Simpsons Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood

Universal Studios Hollywood invited us out to experience their newest attraction, The Simpsons Ride. The ride is housed in the former location of the Back to the Future ride. The rides are similar in that they both use an Imax screen and simulator ride vehicles. A big difference was that while BTTF always gave me a headache, the new Simpsons ride was actually comfortable.

The ride features the Simpsons animated in 3 dimensions, al'a Shrek or Toy Story. The action is fast and funny. The movie is hilarious and one that would require multiple rides to catch all the jokes, both audio and visual. You have to wonder why it took this long to get a ride featuring the Simpsons created. It features all the original voices from the television show - including Kelsey Grammer as Side Show Bob!

This ride is definitely not for those who suffer from motion sickness. Children must be 40" tall to ride. However, there is a well planned and organized child trade-off area for parents with small children. Just ask a ride host where to go and they'll gladly point you in the right direction. Check out the fun website at simpsonsride.com.

Cerritos Public Library - not your ordinary library

A reader emailed me last week and suggested that I visit the Cerritos Public Library. If you are looking for places to visit this summer- this is a must!!! The Cerritos Library Children's Area is modeled more after a children's museum than a library. My kids loved it from the moment they stepped into the building. The Children's library is located on the ground floor and the children's area is united by a theme of saving the planet.

My kiddos were mesmerized from the start by the library's 15,000 gallon saltwater aquarium. They could have stayed for hours admiring the many colorful fish.

Educational exhibits in the Children's area include Stan, a 40-foot long, 12-foot high authentic Tyrannosaurus-rex replica. My son Michael fell in love with Stan. The library also has a scale-model NASA Space Shuttle called the "Spirit of Cerritos," a lighthouse with a siting area, which was also a big hit with my kiddos . In addition, a rain forest tree in this area helps children learn about the rainforest's healing properties and how trees help clean the air. It's a popular place for kids to sit under the tree and read books.

The area also features a geologic core model with strata depicting eras of geologic time. Located above Stan the dinosaur is a ceiling painted with a sky that depicts different atmospheric conditions through lighting effects. A blue screen placed next to the Children's area entrance is used during special events to take photographs of children in front of scenes from literature.

The Children's Library is also home to The "Wetlands" computer workstation . It offers Internet access through a portal of safe sites for kids. Also in this area are updated and expanded interactive and educational CD-ROM products on topics such as math and geography. We visited during peak times and there were actually workstations available.

There are of course plenty of books, in fact, it has to be one of the largest children's collections that I've ever come across. The library is also home to an Art Studio and a Little Theater. The Library is home to a summer reading program for kids, storytime and art classes.

I have to add - my kids favorite part of our Cerritos Adventure was the Dolphin fountain on the grounds of the Library. One of the Library Staff members suggested that next time we visit we bring a change of clothes and a swimsuit for the kids- she said that a little too late- as we were talking both of my kids ran in to the fountain and had the time of their life. I went home with soaking wet kids who had the time of their life.

Making the most out of your Theme Park Vist

With summer upon us and kids out of school- one thing is certain - It's theme park time. Our family usually pays a visit to one of our local theme parks at least once a week. Through trial and error , I have learned what it takes to have a fun and stress free day at any theme park. I wanted to share with you the two most popular questions that I'm asked about theme park visits. I'm usually asked- What do I bring with me? followed by - How can I make my visit go as smooth as possible? What do I bring with me?? 1. You need a good backpack - I'm usually prepared with a great backpack- I never leave home without one . 2. Bring a stroller if you have small children. If you can, make sure to bring a light or umbrella stroller. They are easier to fold up and store- and this is always a plus if you have to take some sort of tram to the theme park entrance. Make sure to have some kind of labeling on you stroller to help yours stand out in the sea of strollers. 3. Make sure to pack a jacket /sweater/blanket. - I've left home without one thinking that there was no possible way that I would be cold on a summer day. Boy was I wrong!! The nights cool off and there is nothing worse than shelling out $50.00 for a cheesy sweatshirt because your three year old is cold. Trust me on this one!! 4. Pack a swimsuit. Many theme parks have water fountains or water play areas. Your kids will want to dive in and there is nothing worse than having to say no because you are not prepared. I always pack an extra set of clothes and a swimsuit. 5. Make sure to bring cash. While most theme park restaurants accept credit cards- some of their vending carts do not. I hate paying for ATM Fees - I always bring cash in hand. 6. If you have little ones make sure to pack a couple of snacks. I usually bring a baggie or two of goldfish and fruit snacks. Just keep it simple. 7. If you can bring a bottle or two of water. I usually freeze mine the night before and throw them in a Ziploc bag- I pack them in at the bottom of my bag and they have been a lifesaver!! 8. Bring baby wipes. I always carry them even if I don't have my youngest with me. They are great for sticky hands and clean ups. I think they are a necessity !! 8. Last but not least -Bring your camera. You want to make sure to capture your fun filled day. Now on to the other question- How can I make my visit stress free and as smooth as possible? 1. I think the most important thing to do is to be prepared and do a little research- Make sure to visit the theme park's website or blog. They usually have useful tips and some blogs can tell you about the the crowds the day before your visit. This is usually a good indicator of the crowds on the day of your visit. 2. Get there as early as possible. You've heard the saying "the early bird catches the bird" and this holds quite true with theme parks. . You will be able to make the most out of your day this way.In my opinion it's the best time of day to ride your favorite attraction-you usually won't have to wait in line and if you do- you won't usually mind because it will be nice and cool. 3. Pick up a map/event guide at the front entrance- The first thing I do is try to plan out my day as soon as I have the map in my hands. Head to the most popular attractions first and plan out your day with the help of your map/event guide. 4. Avoid the lunch time rush. I would try to stay away from eating between 11am to 2pm. Usually the lines to attractions are shorter at this time because everyone is heading out to lunch. If you can , try to eat before 11 am and after 2pm. 5. Avoid attractions between 2 to 4 pm. This is usually peak time at a theme park. We usually use this time to grab a bite to eat and catch a couple of shows. Most restaurants and shows are air conditioned and it's a great time to take a break. If you have little ones- it's the perfect time to catch a snooze in the stroller. 6. If you can , splurge on a VIP or front of the line pass - They are usually more expensive but well worth every penny. If you are at any of the Disney Theme Parks take advantage of their Fastpass system. 7. Keep hydrated. Most theme parks have a souvenir cup deal- where you can buy a souvenir cup and either get free refills or very inexpensive refills throughout the day. 8.Make sure your family is well rested the night before and also well fed before you arrive at the your park of choice. There is nothing worse than dealing with cranky and hungry kids. 9. Last but not least- Enjoy yourself- Don't feel rushed. If you're visiting on a super busy day- odds are you probably wont' be able to take everything in one day and that's fine. It will give you the perfect reason to come back- or even better- upgrade your pass to an annual pass and come back as often as you like. We are heading south to San Diego on Saturday to check out Sea World's Sesame Street Bay of Play. I can't wait to share our Sea World Adventure with you.

Did you know that the Orange County Public Library System has over 30 branches throughout the county? Many cities have their own libraries such as Anaheim or Yorba Linda, but those that don't probably have at least one library through this system.

There are many wonderful activities throughout the month at most of the branches. Here is an upcoming event that I found interesting:

Branch: Garden Grove Regional
11200 Stanford Ave.
Garden Grove 92840

This sounded too interesting to not post about! A table tennis exhibition featuring American and Chinese champions will serve as a prologue to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, right here in Orange County. Tickets are $15 on June 12th and $5 for kids. On June 11th, you can challenge a champ for $5 per game. Universal Studios Front Of Line Pass

I've raved about many places to visit, and things to do on my blog. It's hard not to. In my opinion Southern California is the greatest place on earth. What I'm going to tell you about takes the cake. I discovered one of most fabulous experiences that Southern California has to offer. A theme park visit without long lines or a wait. Our family had the opportunity to visit Universal Studios Hollywood and we tried out the Front of the Line Passes.

What is a Front of The Line Pass you might ask? In my opinion it has to be the most fantastic thing offered by a theme park EVER!! Basically here's how it works. You don't wait in line. You just get on the ride or get the best seat in the house to all of Universal Studios' attractions and shows. I know it sounds too good to be true but it's not. I almost couldn't believe it myself until I experienced it for myself. We didn't have to wait in line for any ride, yes even the new Simpsons ride. It was amazing. While everyone else waited in line for an hour and a half. We were able to walk right on the Simpsons ride(which by the way has to be one of best rides ever!!), without a wait . We also just walked up to the tram for the Studio Back lot tour. No waiting!!! I was in theme park heaven.

Here's the nitty gritty on the Front Of The Line Pass. Every attraction has a general admission line and a gate A entrance. Universal sells a limited number of Front of the Line passes, which guarantees that no matter how long the wait for a given ride, Gate A will never have more than a couple of people waiting to get on the ride. The Front Of the Line Pass is in a class all its own. It will get you on any ride, any show, any time you want. Another fabulous perk of the Front of The Line Pass is that you get a behind the scenes at all of shows.

It's a little more than regular admission but it's so worth it. Trust me on this!! You will especially appreciate it on a hot summer day. While others are waiting miserably in the hot sun for maybe hours at a time, you will be able to skip right past then and enjoy your ride without a wait. That my friends is priceless. There are only a limited number of passes available each day. Make sure to get to the park early or better yet, buy your passes online and skip one other line!!

For additional info click here

On a side note, we were lucky enough to experience King Kong on what turned out to be his last day due to the unfortunate fire. He will be missed.
