Kids Free at the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park in October
*photo courtesy of the San Diego Zoo
I know it's a little early, but I wanted to make sure to post with plenty of time. Plan accordingly to make sure to save a date for some time in October.
The San Diego Zoo and San Diego Wild Animal Park will be offering free admission to kids 11 and under during the entire month of October. In my opinion it is one of the absolute best times to visit. The weather is cooler and the crowds are much lighter than in the summer. To learn more about the free admission head over here. Make sure to take advantage of this Great deal!

Lost Isle Adventures in Morro Bay
I consider myself a little savvy when it comes to local travel and adventuring. I like to think that I have a natural instinct for discovering new adventures or places of interest that are fun and are either free or inexpensive.
On our road trip earlier this month, I was on a quest to find fun and inexpensive things to do with my family in the Central Coast. One of my absolutely favorite places in California is hands down Morro Bay. It's hard not to fall in love with this quaint coastal town. The people are friendly, the scenery breathtaking and there are many fun and inexpensive outings to partake in.
One of our favorite experiences in Morro Bay was our nautical adventures aboard a very cute tiki boat. Lost Isle Adventures is a must on your next visit. I was looking for something to do with the kiddos and found an ad for this fun little cruise and we just had to check it out.
We were impressed from the very start! First off, the prices are very reasonable. The one hour tour is $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under and kiddos 3 and under are free. We spent $25 for what turned out to be a private tour of Morro Bay! You can also find a $2 off coupon in most of the local magazines/newspapers
Our guide was friendly and made the kiddos feel so special. He provided us with binoculars and off we went on our adventure at sea. Our first few minutes were spent admiring Morro Rock and coasting near the big fishing boats. We loved learning about the types of fish that are caught and how the fishermen live. We then headed along the estuary to the sea otter sanctuary. This was the definite highlight of the excursion. We were able to enjoy watching about a half dozen sea otters play and eat in their protected zone. We were also able to watch dozens of seals frolicking in the water.
Next on our tour was a stop at Sandles Cove, a sand-spit that is perfect place to explore. Here you can pack a picnic and be dropped off with the family for a fun adventure. You can explore the area and be picked up in an hour or two. We finished up the tour of the bay with a close up look of the marina and of course Morro Rock. The kiddos were able to explore the captains treasure chest and take home a souvenir. The kiddos had a blast and I can't wait to experience it again on our next trip.
Our family had a great time and I know your family will too!

Safeway/Vons Back to School Box Tops for Education Event/Giveaway
I can't believe there are only a few days left in August. I head back to school tomorrow(I'm finishing up a program at CSUF) and my kiddos return to school in two weeks. My daughter will be heading to kindergarten this year and I plan on collecting Box Tops for Education to help her school this year. The Safeway family of stores (which includes Vons) is making it simple to give back with "2 Ways 2 Earn" cash for your schools with Box Tops for Education and the "10% Goes Back to Schools" program. Box Tops for Education has already given away over $320 million to help the more than 69 thousand schools participating. And if that wasn´t enough, earning Box Tops is even easier this year with four new brands participating in the program: Progresso Soup, Totino´s Pizza, Betty Crocker Cake Mixes and Gold Medal Flour. To help your local schools even further just look for the "10% Goes Back to Schools" yellow school bus tags on over 2,000 of your favorite items throughout Safeway from August 11th - September 14th. When you purchase participating products with your Club Card, Safeway will give 10% of the purchase price to the local school of your choice. Here´s how it works:
To learn more about Box Tops for Education and Safeway´s "10% Goes Back to Schools" program, visit www.2ways2earn.com. And while you´re there, don´t forget to enter the Safeway Bonus Box Tops Sweepstakes for a chance to win 1,000 Bonus Box Tops for the participating school of your choice! To help you start out, I'm giving away a $25 dollar gift card to Safeway/Vons and a 50 Bonus Box Top Certificate. All you have to do is leave a comment letting me know which Box Tops for Education products you will be looking for the Safeway "10% Back to Schools" yellow school tags. Contest will run through Tuesday, August 24th. Winner will be chosen at random. I was not compensated for this post. I was given a gift card and box top certificate from Safeway and General Mills through MyBlogSpark. Gift Card and Certificate are also courtesy of Safeway and General Mills through MyBlogSpark. | |

Walking with Dinosaurs and how you can get some affordable seats
Do you have Dino lovers in your family? Then you must take them to Walking with Dinosaurs.
Have you heard about Walking with Dinosaurs? This amazing show is based on the award-winning BBC TV series, Walking with Dinosaurs. It is a live, theatrical event featuring 15 life-sized dinosaurs walking and roaring right before your eyes -- including a terrifying Tyrannosaurus Rex. The show explores the 200 million-year reign of the dinosaurs and their constant fight for survival and supremacy.
It is an amazing experience. My husband watched the special on BBC America last year and has been raving about it for months. I can't wait to take the entire family.
Walking with the Dinosaurs, is coming to the Honda Center of Anaheim from September 1- 5th and to the Staple Center from September 9-12.
Tickets are a little pricey, from $59 to $79, but after some research, I discovered you can buy them on Goldstar for almost half off. I think we will be definitely buying our tickets from Goldstar!
To learn more about the show head here.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Review and Giveaway!
I have to admit, I had heard about the book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but I have not yet read it. After watching this really cute and funny film, I can't wait to get my hands on the book. The book is perfect for a family night.
The movie along with the move centers around Greg Heffley, a soon to be middle schooler, along with his best friend, Rowley Jefferson. Greg hopes that middle school will be different and becomes focused on a quest to become popular. The more he tries, the more he fails. It is a funny movie and I think one that we can all relate to. It deals with the awkwardness that comes with junior high/middle school, friendships and character. I really enjoyed the movie and I think you will too!
The movie is availabe on DVD and Blue Ray on Tuesday, August 3rd at retailers nationwide.
It's giveaway time!
I have one copy of Diary of a Wimpy Kid to giveaway. All you have to do is leave a comment on why you would like to watch this movie. Contest closes on Thursday, August 5th at 11:59PM. Winner will be selected at random on Friday morning. Good Luck!

Our visit to the California Science Center and "Exloring Trees Inside and Out" Exhibit by Doubletree-Hotels and yes it is all FREE!!
The Science is Center is located in Exposition Park and is the West Coast's largest hands on science center. It boasts 3 floors, which holds permanent exhibits and a special exhibit gallery which showcases popular exhibits from museums around the world. The permanent exhibits are The Creative World Exhibit, The World of Life Exhibit, Air and Space Exhibit, the Science court and our absolute favorite, The Ecosystems.
On last month's visit, we spent almost 3 hours there and I don't know if you can believe this, but spent the entire time checking out the Ecosystems Exhibit and in particular the traveling exhibit " Exploring Trees Inside and Out" sponsored by the DoubleTree Hotels. I took my son and he was in absolute and complete wonderland. He played and ran through the exhibit to his heart's desire!
The "Exploring Trees Inside and Out" exhibit, is designed for young children (ages 2-7) to better understand the significant role trees play in the environment. Through a series of “sensation stations,” children discover trees by crawling inside a giant log and experiencing it as a habitat for living things, listening to the sounds of animals that live in trees, perching and playing in a larger-than-life bird’s nest and becoming a forest creature in a real-time, animated, blue-screen flying experience. While visiting the exhibit, children can experience a glimpse of the wonders that await them outside in their own neighborhoods and learn the simple steps they can take to help conserve the Earth’s natural resources. The exhibit runs until September 26th.
I can't rave enough about the many educational opportunities of this exhibit and they all happen to be done in amazingly fun environment! We had a blast and you can seriously spend hours and hours discovering every inch of the museum.
On our last visit about a year and a half ago, we toured The Creative World , which showcases advances humans have made in communication, architecture and transportation. My kids loved the exhibit. My daughter was fascinated with the communication section of the exhibit. The second and final exhibit we toured was the World of Life exhibit. My kids were in heaven. They did not want to budge from the gallery. They loved the the Life Source gallery which featured a chicken hatchery. The absolute highlight of the trip for them was a visit to the Discovery Room. If you have kids under 7 this is probably where you will spend a good chunk of time. Your children will be able to see frogs, spiders, crabs, turtles, birds and snakes close up. There is a fantastic toddler area. My son Michael who was only only a year old at the time was entertained for at least an hour. We had planned to visit the Air and Space Exhibit but we ran out of time. If you are planning a visit make sure you allow for plenty of time.
I can't tell you enough how much we all loved the museum.. I would either pack a lunch for a fun picnic on the grounds or stop to have lunch downstairs at McDonald's. Trust me your entire family will love this place!
Make an entire day of it by heading there on the first Tuesday of the month, and stopping by the Museum of Natural History, which is next door and free on the First Tuesday of the month!

FujiFilm FinePix XP10
I have a three year old and a five year old, that are in love with my electronics. There is not one daythat passes by, that I don't find them playing with my flip camera, my DSLR, my phone, my laptop, etc.. I'm sure that there are many of you out there in the same situation. My poor DSLR is on its last leg and I have been on the lookout for a durable and fun, point and shoot camera. When the good people at FujiFilm asked me to try out their FinePix XP10, I jumped at the opportunity. Here is why. This camera is DURABLE and pretty much indistructable!
The FinePix XP10 is a super-tough, "Four-Proof" digital camera. It is Waterproof, Freezeproof, Shockproof and last but not least Dustproof. Yes, you can drop it, soak it, freeze it, and even cover in dirt and the camera will be unscathed! My kiddos, put this to the test, on the same day it came out of the box. My son dropped it within five minutes, and it was unscratched, perfect, like nothing had happened. Since then he's dropped it in a pool, at a wedding we attended last week, and thrown it on the ground. There is still not a scratch on it and working like a charm.
