Babysitting and Movie Theaters- A perfect combo!!

If you have kids - you know how hard it can be to catch a flick or have a datenight. Babysitters can be hard to come by and can cost an arm and a leg. I was recently tipped off by my hubby of all people( I think he was dropping major hints that we need a movie night) of two movie theaters that offer in-lobby babysitting/play center. The Harkins Movie Theater Chain offers a play center in the lobby and only a few steps away from your auditorium. The babysitting rate is only $6.00 per child and is for children 3-8 that are potty trained. The staff all have background checks and are CPR certified. There are crafts, games and of course movies!! I know that I can't wait until my son turns 3 and I can enjoy a night at the movies with the hubby knowing that the kids will only be a few feet away from me and that babysitting will not cost me an arm and a leg!! The Harkins Theaters are located in Chino Hills and Moreno Valley. The Chino Hills play center location is open 7 days a week and the Moreno Valley is open Mon, Wed,Fri-Sun. Creatively Fun Family Day at the Sawdust Art Festival

I always try to find any excuse to head on over to Laguna Beach. I absolutely love Laguna and the city's renowned Art Festivals. On Saturday the Sawdust Festival will present the Creatively Fun Family Day which sounds like a treat for the whole family . Entrance to the festival allows your kiddos to participate in unlimited hands on art activities!! Some of the activities featured are:
  • Ceramics Booth
  • Childrens’ Art Spot
  • Sawdust Studio plus..
  • Painting with Doug Miller
  • Recycled Critters with Reem Khalil
  • Glass blowing demonstrations with John Barber & Christopher Jeffries!

The Sawdust Art Festival’s, “Creatively Fun Family Day” highlights local performance groups and musicians including: Ghungaroo Indian Dance from Soka University, singer/songwriter Brooke Ramel, and the Laguna Community Concert Band! (more entertainment TBA)

I love great deals and this event is most definitely a good deal. Admission to the Family Day includes unlimited art projects and crafts and is $2.00 for children 5-13 , $4.00 for adults and children under five are of course free. You can also opt for a family four pack for $10.00. So basically for the price of one ticket to your local cineplex- your entire family can enjoy a day of arts and crafts. You can't beat that!!

I'm going to stop in for an hour or two. If you see me there stop by and say hello!!

Date: Saturday, April 18th Time: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Place: Sawdust Art Festival935 Laguna Canyon RoadLaguna Beach 92651

Metered parking is available along Laguna Canyon Road with complimentary parking on Frontage Road courtesy of the City of Laguna Beach.

psst... I would make a day of it with a stop at main beach and then head for some yummie desert at Scandia Bakery on Forest Avenue. It's a must stop when you visit Laguna!!

Drive-In theaters in Southern California - Making a comeback

One of my favorite memories from my childhood is going to the drive in with my family. My sisters and I would be stuffed in my dad's truck sharing popcorn and licorice. We would go a couple of times a month and it was always a guaranteed good time. We would stop at our favorite hamburger or taco joint and pick up drive in food. My Drive-In memories are so special and I really want my little ones to be able to make some memories of their own. Unfortunately most of the drive-in theaters across the country and especially in Southern California are gone. They are almost a thing of the past. After doing a little research I discovered that there are a handful of drive-in theaters in operation in So Cal. In fact the local theaters that are still around are making quite a resurgence I think many of us that grew up with the Drive-In's are heading to them in droves to make memories with their own families. I can't wait to take my kiddos to their first drive in and perhaps go on a date with the hubby. I can almost taste it- In-n-Out, homemade treats and a family movie. Sounds good to me!!! Here's a list of local drive-in movie theaters in operation and admission. Enjoy!!! Oh almost forgot if you would like to read more about the Drive-In's that are left and the ones that are now long gone- check out these sites- http://www.socaldriveins.com/ http://www.roadsidepeek.com/roadusa/southwest/california/socal/socaldrivein/index.htm 1.Van Buren Drive-in 3035 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside 951-688-2360 Screens: Three Capacity: 1,500 cars Opened: 1964 Admission: $7, 5-9 $1.00, under 5 free- Cash only http://www.vanburendriveintheatre.com/#/movies/ 2.Rubidoux Drive-in 3770 Opal St., Riverside 951-683-4455 http://www.rubidoux.icyspicy.com/ Screens: Three Capacity: 600 cars Opened: 1948 Admission: $7, kids 5-9 $1.00- under 5 Free- Cash only 3.
